Vocal Growth: Nite Jewel's One Second of Love
NITE JEWEL: ONE SECOND OF LOVE
SCORE: 80/100 - 8Much more vocal than her college debut, 'One Second of Love' sees Nite Jewel in a much different, more matured and confident effort while still showcasing the immersive, atmospheric grooves that made up the aural elements of her debut album.
Between transcendent atmospheres and slinky groove-filled tracks, Gonzalez's second effort is a job incredibly well done. It feels like a complete reinvention while still using and keeping her skillset close to her musical advantage; and although it's incredibly different from her debut, it doesn't feel too far off - and it's clear that this is the clearer sibling album to 'Good Evening' where she has finally found her voice and let it shine deeply against every melody.
It's classy while being potent and still utterly danceable - and the ballroom floor-esque sound of the album is enough to keep any listeners engaged. It feels like a better introduction than her debut served as; and 'One Second of Love' might just be the album to rope you in to Nite Jewels carefully catered and crafted world.
Every album of hers manages to capture a completely unique and vivid experience - with this album feeling the most like a cold night drive on the most gorgeously bright of nights; the buildings, the lights, the stars, the breeze. It's all captured on every single song, and the entire album paints a vivid picture of a vaguely, almost vividly familiar place. This album is significantly more artistically inclined and cohesive than her debut - and although 'Good Evening' may be the best album to lounge to, this album is something much deeper and much more immersive.
'One Second of Love' is a versatile album that truly shows of an artistic palate that most artists couldn't pull off - and although Gonzalez still seems repressed and almost shy within these tracks, there's enough spark and enough potential for her to come fully out of her shell that sets this album apart from the rest. It manages to still keep her experimental and unique nature while opting in for something more "traditional", and she takes her influences and brings them up higher into the light - which becomes even more apparent as the album finds its footing.
Haven't heard of her before, but it sounds worth checking out! Love your description of how the album makes you feel 🩷
ReplyDeleteShe is one of my absolute favorites! I found her through the GTA V soundtrack and have been hooked on her music ever since. Such infectiously groovy music that has such carefully catered atmospheres.
