The Return of Disko: Disko Warp in 2025
DISKO WARP: DISKO WARP MEETS SAKUMA HITOMI & J-GIRLS
SCORE: 85/100Disko Warp having a new release this year wasn't on my 2025 bingo card - but their style of production and thumpy hardcore beats mixed with the Japanese gyaru substyle fits incredibly well.
This album has a very particular and specific 2000's-2010's aesthetic that is rare to find in such an authentic way in the 2020's, but Disko Warp never losing their sound and style means that it is entirely pure, with genuine beats and a verisimilitude vocal layer over the production, 'Disko Warp Meets Sakuma Hitomi & J-Girls' is one of the most exciting and enjoyable albums of the year without a single doubt.
As dance albums usually follow, this album has a format where the songs go together into one album that is best enjoyed from start to finish - but the songs are striking enough to work outside of the album, too. They're great songs for mixing with vocals that are arranged perfectly to tailor the production to its fullest, and the resulting album is something highly worthwhile for any longtime fans of happy hardcore, as this is sure to hit the spot.
It's a highly prestigious album despite it's low-level of appreciation, and it's well worth it's short and palatable runtime. There is a wonderfully high sense of consistency throughout the entire album, and the project was both unexpected and incredibly solid.
The songs are infectiously fun and sound straight out of an early Dance Dance Revolution soundtrack, and it's entirely refreshing to get an album like this so many years after this style was the "norm". It's perfect for DJ's and clubbers alike - and we might be finding a return to form for dance and electronic music very soon that has been steadily growing since last year.
